MNRR: In with the new, out with the old, kinda.
October 25, 2008
Seriously? It's been two months since I took a pic of anything Modoc Northern? No pics of the 651 until now?
No, not really. I had plenty of pics of both the 650 and 651, but I can't find them. Were they victims of my hard drive failure a few years ago? Not likely, as I had backups of everything; nevertheless my photos have gone astray. Perhaps I will find them anon, and if I do, you can be assured I will add them to the website.
To explain the title of this page, "In with the new, out with the old, kinda," let me point out that in the photo below, the 651 (this being the newest photo of it that I can find) is the "new" but the 1761, while being "old," is not the Modoc Northern's old. It is one of Lake County's old, and is on its way back to its rightful owner, Western Rails.
To my knowledge, the 1761 had not run for a long time.

Also on hand in the yard that day, the 700 is parked against an old heavyweight passenger car. Oddly enough, I have no knowlege of where that car came from, who owned it before, why it was acquired, and when it arrived on the Modoc Northern.

Unlike the locomotives, whose paint seemed to be washed and waxed often, the poor caboose was fading.

Just a detail photo; this car and jack had sat in this location like this for several months in Tulelake.
