A look at the UP in 2005: Modoc line clean-up extra, continued

The last U.P. train on the Modoc line

Once all the cars are coupled up, the train pulls them out onto the main, then switches out the bad-order cars and puts them back on the siding for the mechanical department's attention.  This one appears to have been sideswiped.

After all the bad order cars are set out, a brake test is made and then the clean-up train heads for Klamath Falls with one locomotive (running long hood forward), five gondolas and forty box cars.  The train made good time over the welded rail north of Tule Lake.
